Summer Palace
If you are in Beijing. It is north west of the city. The summer palace was build 800 years ago for the emperors
Family because where they lived was so hot at 40 Celsius
So they had the summer palace built in a place where it was
A bit colder. It was colder there because it was a bit higher
On a mountain. It is very big -700 acres. The summer palace has 3 lakes and 1 hill. The emperors lived around
The hill and went fishing on the lake.
Lots of people helped them build the summer palace.
For example there weren’t any lakes at first. They had
To dig the lakes for the water to go into. They had to use
Spades! The temples that are in the summer palace made mostly of stones. They built a river so the emperors didn’t
Have to go on the road all the way to the summer palace from his home in the city. He could go in a boat and end up in one of his lakes. So why should you go there?
It is a very nice place to vist. Because the weather is not too
Hot. It nice to get away from the city and you can see lots of lakes and temples. At only 20$ per person.

Chinese Opera Masks
Chinese Opera Masks are used during Chinese Opera performances.
They were based on old tales of heroes and the supernatural.
For two hundred years the operas were usually performed for royal families. The performers used to wear masks but they changed this because people couldn’t see their facial expressions. They are made by using different coloured paint: black, red, yellow, purple, blue, white and green to paint their faces in interesting designs and patterns.
Each mask symbolises different gods the Chinese believe in. The main colours used for gods and spirits are gold and silver. The main colour used on the face shows the character’s personality.
